Octopuses don't belong on farms

Octopuses are intelligent, sentient animals with complex behavioural needs. The prospect of intensive octopus farming raises serious concerns about their welfare and the protection of marine ecosystems.

Farming octopuses would mean confining animals that are naturally solitary, exposing them to increased risks of aggression and cannibalism. Their diets would also require large quantities of other marine animals, putting additional pressure on wild fish populations.

REthink ANIMALS joins organisations from around the world in signing an open letter coordinated by Compassion in World Farming, calling on the European Commission to:

Ban octopus farming across the European Union.

Ban the sale of products from octopus farms operating outside the EU.

The EU has an opportunity to prevent a new industry of animal exploitation from becoming established.

We don't need more animals on farms. We need less exploitation.
